Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major Control Tower IT Issue
Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.
Some passengers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway during the disruption.
Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays
Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
However, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.
A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be affected.
"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Travelers should still plan to check the status of their journey before traveling to the airport as residual delays are cleared.
