Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only half a year after starting insulting chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.
Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead offensive songs regarding Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder
The pair had a past before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything seems has been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Challenges
The forward featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
