Patson Daka Scores Stoppage-Time Goal to Earn Zambia Against Mali in Afcon.
Patson Daka halted a lengthy goal dry spell for Zambia with his last-gasp header in Casablanca.
Patson Daka proved to be the match-saver for Chipolopolo as his dying-moments header secured a dramatic 1-1 share of the points against Mali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Mali Takes Early Lead
The Malian attacker had broken the deadlock around the 60-minute mark in the tournament's opening group encounter at the iconic Casablanca stadium, firing in from close range after his first effort from a corner kick had been blocked.
Mali dominated possession and had an opportunity to go in front in the final moments of the opening period after a Malian forward was tripped in the box by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.
El Bilal Toure stepped up for the Eagles but his well-hit shot was expertly kept out by Chipolopolo shot-stopper Willard Mwanza.
Daka's Late Intervention
The Leicester City man eventually salvaged a draw for the former champions, who were largely outmuscled by the aerial strength of the Malians until Banda's delivery into the box was powered home by the forward.
Tournament Standings
The result leaves each team a couple of points behind host nation Morocco in the Group A table after Morocco won their opening game 2-0 against Comoros on Sunday.
Chipolopolo will remain in Casablanca to play their next game against their next opponents on the coming Friday, while The Eagles journey to the capital for a crunch showdown against Morocco.
