The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic setting. The project has been announced, with a funding drive planned to launch in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and player-driven missions," states an announcement.
Initial offerings are set to feature a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in New York City, plunging the nation into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, society crumbles and violent factions rise, turning the city into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the players enter the story.
Development on the game has been underway for about three years, and it is reportedly complete. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, particularly in the United States. Production is slated to begin immediately following the campaign, with shipping projected for the latter part of 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the system confirms it employs d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and strategic style. Agents use skills or traits to roll a handful of dice, usually between one and five d10s.
- Rather than summing the total, players select a single “result die” from the group.
- This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a natural 10 grants additional bonuses, such as increased harm or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Situational Insight
Fights stress positioning and situational awareness, mirroring the source material. Elements like cover, elevation, or visibility have a direct impact success chances. This system is designed to favor coordination and clever tactics over simple statistics.
A Novel Health System
The way injuries is tracked introduces a interesting narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At zero health, an operative is downed, but they’re not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, simulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like shock or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A free introductory rulebook will be released in the near future. It includes a pre-made starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, players spearhead the search for a missing medical team and work to stop an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that Manhattan district. Further information and the full range of offerings are expected to be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
